Tony Mallin MBE

Founder & Trustee

Before establishing STAR, Tony spent 20 years at Hambros Bank (most recently as Vice Chairman) responsible for the banking division and chaired the credit committee. During that time, he founded the vendor, project and structured financing operations as well as a private equity and an aircraft investment business.

Tony founded STAR Capital Partners (“SCP”) in 1999. The strategy was to focus on “Strategic Assets”. This initiative was one of the first moves towards infrastructure investing which has now become an established asset class for institutions around the world. SCP has closed its third fund at the hard cap and continues its successful investment activity across Western Europe.

Tony is also a keen sportsman who rowed internationally and is a cycling enthusiast. He served on the British Boxing board for 8 years and chaired the audit committee. He is Vice President of Lea Rowing club and a member of various other clubs including Melbourne University Boat club. He chaired a review committee for the government to determine how basketball can be improved in the UK and gain greater participation and also chaired the investment committee of Sport England. He is a past Treasurer of British Rowing and now chairs YES.
